BSU YOUNG DEMOCRATS

“As leadership of the Boise State Young Democrats, we are thrilled to enthusiastically endorse Nikson Mathews for the Idaho House of Representatives. Nikson's candidacy marks a significant milestone - as he would become the first trans person to serve in the legislature, filling a crucial gap in representation that Idaho sorely needs.

Nikson has not only shared his vision for a more inclusive and equitable Idaho with us, but he has actively engaged with our club consistently, speaking at our meetings and inviting us to join him at community events. His commitment to dialogue and engagement reflects a genuine dedication to connecting with the very people he aims to serve.

In Nikson, we see a candidate who embodies our shared values of inclusivity, equality, and justice for all. His advocacy for queer representation in Idaho politics is not just important—it's long overdue. By electing Nikson Mathews to the Idaho House of Representatives, BSU Young Dems believe we take a significant step towards a more democratic and representative Idaho that truly reflects all its citizens. We wholeheartedly concur that Nikson Mathews is the right choice to champion our values and advocate for the diverse voices of our community in the state legislature. We invite others to join us in supporting Nikson as we work towards a more inclusive and equitable future for Idaho.”

John McCrostie

Former Idaho State Representative for District 16

The passion that Nikson brings to serving his community is powerful. The compassion he holds for people whose voices need heard and amplified is tangible and real. And the understanding he displays on issues ranging from human rights to education to health care to voting rights demonstrates a wisdom beyond his years. Nikson will be an excellent Representative for District 16, and I am proud to endorse him.”

Katie Rotchford Hopkins

Idaho Public School Teacher

“As a public school teacher for the past 17 years, I have seen the ways educational policies have a profound and lasting impact on the success of our students and the viability of our communities.

For these reasons, I am supporting Nikson Mathews for Idaho House of Representatives, District 16B. Nikson is committed to improving educational funding, supporting teacher salaries that keep pace with Idaho’s cost of living, building safe and effective school infrastructure, endorsing research-based best practices and curriculum, and seeking ways to support the mental health needs of both students and teachers. Nikson is a candidate truly shaped by Idaho schools. He is a product of our public school system, was raised by a public school teacher, and serves as an adjunct instructor at BSU. He knows firsthand how policy can shape Idaho’s educational landscape and is invested in the success of Idaho public schools. By focusing on engagement, inclusivity, and listening, he ensures that the educators, parents, and even students, are at the center of his policy making.

Nikson has proven they are a dedicated advocate of teachers across the state, of classrooms and public schools, and of all the students enrolled in them. Join me in supporting Nikson Mathews, a candidate who is sincerely committed to public education in Idaho.”

Chelsea Gaona Lincoln

His commitment to affordable healthcare and comprehensive education reform demonstrates compassion and pragmatism, essential for effective leadership.

He understands our community's challenges and aspirations, making him the best candidate to represent not just District 16 but Idaho as a collective in the House of Representatives.

Nikson's genuine compassion and unwavering dedication to serving the people of District 16 make him an exceptional candidate. Jason Pretty Boy

Idaho Democratic Party National Committeeman and Organizer, Idaho Indigenous Alliance

I am from a farming community in one of the historically reddest counties in Idaho, Cassia. I gained a large part of my values and how I look at life from growing up in the backyard of real Idaho political giants like Denton Darrington, Bruce Newcomb, John Evans. I proudly endorse Nikson Mathews to follow in the footsteps of those community leaders, to advocate for all Idahoans, not just those in his district. Nikson’s commitment to a brighter future for all Idahoans is commendable, especially focusing on education reform and affordable healthcare, two platform ideas most often forgotten in the legislative process.

I ask those constituents of Nikson, those Idahoans who want real representation in the Statehouse to think about supporting Nikson for Seat 16B. I also ask those that might not fall into Nikson’s district to support as they see fit, we need pragmatic and community centric leadership in the Statehouse and that is what I believe Nikson Mathews will bring.

Jonathan Lashley

Candidate for Ada County Commissioner, District 1

Devin Gutierrez

Candidate for Ada County Commissioner, District 3

As the Democratic candidates running for seats on the Ada County Board of Commissioners, we recognize the importance of connecting and empathizing with constituents countywide—not just those who live in our respective districts. After spending considerable time with voters in District 16, learning about their lives, goals, and concerns, we recognize that Nikson Mathews is in a unique position to not only represent his neighbors but also the inclusive interests of many Idahoans.

Representation is critical when the challenges we face in Idaho are not isolated to a single community or voting district. At a time when the dignity and rights of many Idahoans get threatened or outright dismissed, we find it heartening that leaders like Nikson step up to share their lived experiences with people in power. While it’s unlikely that he is the only 40-year-old small business leader, adjunct professor, policy advocate, and proud member of the LGBTQ+ community in Idaho, his perspective is missing among the members of our current legislature. Thanks to his work as a registered lobbyist for Add The Words, Nikson has already forged relationships with lawmakers across parties thanks, in part, to the sincerity and respect he shows others who are less familiar with the communities he serves. He’s doing the work, and we trust him when he says his candidacy is not born out of a desire for political gain but from a genuine dedication to serving others and making a tangible difference in his home state.

Because we share his ambitions to serve and effect positive change for our fellow Idahoans, we are thrilled to endorse Nikson Mathews in his bid to represent District 16. His vision for compassionate policy-making, coupled with his deep understanding of community needs, exemplifies the kind of leadership needed by his district—and Idaho at large.

David roth

Candidate for U.S. House of Representatives, Idaho District 2

Representation matters. I first met Nikson at an event in Twin Falls doing the work to support those in their community. Over time I have watched Nikson develop into a true advocate not only for the constituents of District 16 but for individuals across the state. The courage to be seen by those who feel invisible and the conviction to stand for all Idahoans in his testimony before the legislature. We need more of that. We need more leaders willing to stand up for those who feel voiceless.

I know Nikson to be one of those leaders which is why I endorse his campaign for the Idaho House of Representatives representing the people of District 16. I encourage anyone who supports me and what I stand for to stand with me in support of Nikson. I know that he will work tirelessly for the people of Idaho, for all the people of Idaho.

Cole LeFavour

Former Idaho Senator, first openly queer elected official in Idaho

“It’s time for Idaho to again have a compassionate, hard-working LGBTQ lawmaker in the Capitol, and Nikson Mathews is an outstanding voice for all of Idaho and the people of District 16.

I know well how much it matters when lawmakers serve next to those who are the subject or target of their laws when they have to look us in the face as they legislate, eat next to us, travel with us, and are reminded daily of our humanity and the value of our lives.

As a senator and house member, I built strong relationships with my republican colleagues and see Nikson Mathews as the sort of leader who will build bridges and also earn support and co-sponsorship for proactive legislation, helping educate and soften the cruelty often coming out of the Capitol and into Idaho law. ”

Suzanne Gore

Former Chief of Staff, Idaho House of Representatives Democratic Caucus

“As someone who has worked with the Idaho House of Representatives Democratic Caucus, I've seen what it takes to be an effective leader. Nikson Mathews is smart, hardworking, and committed to progressive values.

Their dedication and unique perspective is what we need in the Idaho House. Nikson's ability to understand and tackle our state's challenges makes them the ideal candidate. I am confident in their ability to win this race and make a real difference in the Idaho House.”

Human rights idaho

Youth-led organization focusing on equality in the schools and community

“We know that Nikson will do what's best for everyone, not just what is best for one party or group of individuals.

We also believe that the Idaho House needs more representation of the LGBTQ+ community but, overall, just representation of everybody.”
